RELEASE Statement

Purpose

Deletes from main storage a previously fetched procedure.

Syntax

RELEASE entry-constant

Parameters

entry-constant
The RELEASE statement must specify an entry constant. It is the name by which the loaded procedure is known to the operating system. It is the same as the one used in the corresponding FETCH statement, CALL statement, CALL option of an INITIAL attribute, or function reference.

Description

The RELEASE statement releases (deletes) from main storage a previously fetched modules. RELEASE * deletes all previously fetched modules. It must not be executed from within a fetched module. When OPTIONS(FETCHABLE) is referenced in a RELEASE statement, the procedure can also be loaded into main storage when a CALL statement, or a CALL option of an INITIAL attribute, or a function reference is executed.
